Why the SPC card is a game-changer for students

Why the SPC card is a game-changer for students

Living as a student can be rough. You’re studying full-time, working part-time, and rarely feel like you have any time on your hands to do all of the things you want to do. Worst of all, you have to deal with paying for your tuition, books, food, outings, clothes — just to name a few. Luckily, you can exponentially cut back on costs with the SPC card.

What is the SPC card?

The SPC card is the Student Price Card. It is a loyalty card that helps students cut back on every day expenses like food, clothes, travel, and activities. They offer students great discounts at many stores they might shop at. It might even come in handy for certain things like car repairs, cellphone plans and visits at the orthodontist’s! Keep in mind that some deals are only available in certain regions and not all across Canada. If you want to see what deals are offered, visit the SPC website.

The best part about it is that the SPC card only costs 11.99$ to get for an entire year! With all of the deals you’ll end up getting, you’ll more than make up for it. All you need to do is register online to buy the card. In order to use it in stores, simply download the SPC app and show your retailers.

You’ll also find many other categories to shop in such as fitness, entertainment, and local shops! Another great feature offered by SPC is for those that prefer to stay home and cook. SPC can save students a ton of money on grocery bills by offering them discounts with Hello Fresh. They currently have a discount of 20% off a month of meals! These days, with prices going up because of inflation, we’re never sure if staying in is cheaper than going out. But HelloFresh makes that clear — with 20% off on your grocery bills for a month, you’re sure to save a lot of money.

Are you eligible?

The Student Price Card, as its name suggests, is available only to students aged 13 and over. Once a student registers, they are eligible to receive all of the discounts mentioned above and more. Some store may require that you show your student ID card along with the SPC membership card if you are aged 16 and over — you can do so easily by storing it within your SPC app.

Because SPC doesn’t offer any physical card and every discount is accessed through the SPC app, students that register and plan to shop in person must own a SmartPhone. If you do not own a SmartPhone, you may only have access to SPC’s online deals (there are over 150 for you to choose from).

So if you’re a student having to navigate your way through school and your part-time job and are struggling to make ends meet (especially if you’re living alone!), get an SPC card today. Of course, just because you’re saving money on a lot of purchases doesn’t mean you should think of it as extra pocket money to spend on other things. What’s important is that you keep tracking your money and keep following your budget. After all, you don’t want to finish school with a huge debt that you aren’t able to manage once you’re fresh on the job market!
